Not sure what you mean about the leaves.

What you're describing could be bud blast, which can happen during a sudden change of environment or if the plant catches a draft. If you have it placed in a windowsill, and it's cold out, or if the plant is placed close to a heating vent, or someplace where the flowers would get very warm... then that would cause the flowers to drop.

I enjoy my in bloom orchids on my kitchen table.

There is a lot of reasons that takes an orchid to abort the flowers. It may be some kind of disease, so pay attention to the leafs and roots.

If you just bought it/them then it's usually a pretty common experience for me when I buy grocery/big box store orchids. The stress the orchid endures from the nursery to the store to your home is too much for the blooms and the orchid decides it needs to focus on leaves/roots. I've only had one or two orchid blooms from big box stores last more than a week or two. However, if the orchid is happy you should get blooms the next year.

If this is happening to orchids you've already owned then follow the advice from the previous posters.

Some pictures would help and also to know what kind of orchids they are. Another thing that can cause bud blast is keeping them near ripening fruit such as bananas or apples. They give off gases that cause bud blast. Also all of the above mentioned causes such as a change in environment or warm registers or cold drafty windows.

Is the flower spike in question one that grew in your care? If it is and it's dropping buds I would question the health of the root system. When was the last time you checked the roots?
