I spent my first Christmas with an artificial tree this year. Long story for another day. While I was at Lowe's, I found five mini NoIDs on the sale table for $1 each. How could I leave them there?

So while I was having my little pity-party and rescuing sad orchids, decided to stop by my least favorite local greenhouse. Just to walk around in the "heat" for awhile. What did my wondering eye spy? Orchids?!? Huh? This place doesn't sell orchids. As it turns out, one of the greenhouse workers does, and winters them over there. And yes, sigh, sells them too. Look what I picked up for $10 each (three, plus note the dend hitchhiker)...

All appear to have not great roots, but also all three are in bud. Thus, I will watchfully wait and see how it goes, prior to repotting.

Maybe my pity-party for an artificial tree wasn't so bad after all.

I bought 9 Better-Gro "orchids-in-a-bag" for $5.00 each at Lowes! Lucky you! You got some for $1.00!

Ooooooooo!!!! So now you have some nice inexpensive orchids to learn from. Nice catts. Phals are nice too. Sphagnum moss media? Somewhere on the board I have a small quick photo montage that shows you how to repot phals without damaging them. I'm going to do another one soon along with one on catts. You can repot now if they are kept inside where it is warmer than 60*f and have some decent light. We're here to help!!! (rubs his hands gleefully). Oh yeah. We need more pictures of your haul. Leaves, rizomes, flower buds, media...... Oh I can't wait to get started!!! (continues to rub his hands gleefully).

You guys are quackin' me up. I will post some more pics and comments hopefully later today. Right now, I'm supposed to be concentrating on assisting with dishwasher install, and just sat down to rest a moment. Must.stay.focused.

Im sure if you tell your dishwasher installer that you have an orchid emergency, you would be excused.

Aren't you glad you brought home those orchids? Leaving them in the store for Xmas, I think not.
