This cattleya was named after a movie star.....
This is C. Carol Channing. Lovely white with a gorgeous scent. First bloom off this. When I got it the plant was mostly old dead pbulbs. One after the other grew but didn't bloom. Finally this one threw these two blooms. This came from a nice lady who has since passed. She grew lots of old hybrid white catts when they were made into corsages for proms and elegant dates. I am dividing them as they get large enough and in a couple years donating them back to my orchid club which is what she did with these old orchids. Hope you enjoy.

This is an old hybrid? It does seem to have a kind of 'classic' look to it...
Way to grow, looks beautiful

Thank you. This hybrid was created in the 50's. Maybe someone with OrchidWhiz can give us more info on when and what the parents were. I'd be really interested.

Back in the days of yesteryear riding a white horse with a hearty hi ho silv... oh....ok. I'm ok. Back in the days of Elvis, Jerry Lee, and Peggy Sue, girls used to be presented corsages to pin on their bossoms and wrists. White cattleyas were the rage. Whoa to the girl that got a red one!!!! Anyway, this is where I got all my white catts. Bell Garner grew white hybrid catts from that bygone era. I have a couple more that may bloom this season but most likely next.

Beautiful cattleya! Orchid Wiz shows two orchids registered as C. Carol Channing. I've never seen two orchids with the same name before. There isn't a picture for either one of them and they don't have any awards. The first C. Carol Channing was registered in 1952 by H. Patterson. The parents are C. Derrynane and C. Royana. The second C. Carol Channing was registered in 1959 by Vallmar Gardens. The parents are C. Barbara Dane and C. Bruno Alberts.

Very nice, there's just something about the old ones. Kind of like the species.
