Leaf damage on my NOID phal Female
Default Leaf damage on my NOID phal

I bought a NOID phal at lowes since it was on sale. This damage was there when I bought it a few months ago. It hasn't changed as far as I've seen. To me it looks like it got cooked or was physically damaged.

Do you agree with that assumption?

I ask because I didn't know that there were viruses that could kill an orchid. Now that I've been reading up on viruses I'm getting a little worried.

Leaf damage when the leaf was very young. It is not a fungal or virus issue.

Thanks. I've never dealt with a plant with a virus so I don't know what to look for.

Looks mechanical to me like it has been scraped or something. It will naturally fall off one day when it is the bottom leaf. Phals do that. They lose their bottom leaves naturally as a matter of course. Just put up with it till then since it is green and making food for the orchid.

I would say mechanic damage as well. It will not go away, but nothing to worry about. just unsightly.

Regarding virused plants, many infected plants show no symptoms, so practice hygiene and treat all plants as if they were virused just to be safe.

Plant that do show some symptoms usually look quite bad and will make you think hmmm.
