Red Phal suggestions?
Anyone have a suggestion on the truest/deepest red phal out there (and where it is available)?
Relative newbie on orchids and new to this forum, so any suggestions would be appreciated!

If you are looking for species (sorry, I don't know anything about artificial hybrids), a lot of them are purplish red: P. pulchra, some P. luedemmaniana, some P. speciosa, some P. corningiana, and red var. of P. cornu-cervi. Here I'm saying "some" because there are quite a bit of variation within species, and some of them (most are artificially selected) achieve more uniform red than the typical types.

Red Phal suggestions?
Welcome to the Orchid Board, palebluedot! My source for red flowered Phalaenopsis is Big Leaf Orchids. Here is a screen shot of their website. Peter Lin/owner sometimes posts on the board. He also has a Phalaenopsis forum.
Sorry about the poor picture.

From what ive seen reds come more from dark heavy spotting than as a solid colour and veer towards maroon or violet. Even solid ones are more magenta than red. It depends on lighting. The dark solid reds tend to have heavier substance very waxy and fewer blooms per spike due to the species involed in the crosses and are more novelty plants usually pricier. I remember watching a video once somewhere i forget where saying a red is made by crossing a yellow with a purple... something wierd like that lol. Look up red phalaenopsis on Google and plenty come up. As for me, i like dtps taida salu for red. Its yellow with heavy red mottling so if your temps are cool during spiking the blooms come out almost solid red with yellow specks not the other way around but again its like finding a true blue vanda: close but still purple... one day

It is a very dark red velvety color.

I don't think there is a true red phalaenopsis out there yet.
The named one above has dark maroon or wine tone to it.
Sogo Grapes and other similar looking phals are closer to red depening on the light, but mostly deep magenta.
Anyone has, or has seen, "true red" phalaenopsis?

I also like taida salu when bloomed really dark.
then look at them at a distance, it looks close to red.

Thank you for the responses and welcome, everyone.
I've noticed the Big Leaf photos before, Matt. Checked it out again and really like the Phal Meir's Red Surprise 'Peter Lin' HCC/AOS...but I don't think they have it available.
