Sorry me again demanding photos. Could you take one of the whole greenhouse from the outside and inside? Seeing all these individual pieces of the puzzle has got me so curious!

It looks like you have the room to do this. Just put a pot along side of the overgrown orchid and fill with what ever you are using.

Hi hi :-) I will take some inside and outside photos :-) I know how it is to b curious when u only get snippets of info :-).

In the meantime can some tell me what type of orchid this is as I just found it upside down in pot at back of greenhouse. It's now out of its medium (no loss it was terrible) but I don't know how to pot or what medium to use

Thanks :-)

Polarizeme 01-19-2014 09:35 PM

It's kind of hard to tell with the small leaves, but maybe an Oncidium type?

I'd pot it in a bark mix. Most plants with Pseudo bulbs like a well draining mix

Hi again :-) as requested I have taken photos of greenhouse but I realise I should have taken a before and after :-(

well I'm proud of our efforts, my partner has cleaned the 6ft high grass and taken out concrete poles, pipes, logs n other clutter that was on the ground. We found a brick path under it all lol.

finally in the last week the 5-6 spiders the size of my palm that were living inside have finally gotten sick of rebuilding their webs n relocated yayay no more crazy spider web dances from me :-p

This is the western side of the greenhouse/bush house :-)

to give u an idea when we first started out this one shelf had 45 orchid pots 200mm each pushed together all touching sitting on this bench. All were in different stages of neglect and all have either fungus disease or root rot.

Now I only have these 11 left to repot + 2 hanging stanhopeas.

There were also approx 10 pots on bottom shelf underneath these ones that were all dead orchids with completely desiccated orchids. Their bulbs just fell apart in my fingers. I let them all go in a fiery blaze lol.

Klueless_Kristie 01-31-2014 10:50 PM

As u can see its in progress and any tips anyone has about changes I can make, please suggest away.

i found several large pieces of glass covered under eons of dirt so I was thinking of placing them some where to create a humid area for growing the orchids the need higher humidity..... Hmmmm but not sure, so suggestions on glass use would be wonderful.

Also the shade cloth was apparently put up by grandad in late 70s early 80s so it is really damaged and not really doing its best lol but typical grandad had another roll sitting in his workshop that he brought late 90s but for health reasons he didn't get around to re-covering the greenhouse. So that is on the to do list shortly.

Tomorrow my partner and I are having an autum clean of the greenhouse so we plan on taking out all the orchids ..... Ant/cockroach/spider bombing the whole area, scribing the shelves with bleach, and cleaning the floors so that the area is finally sanitised :-)

Hope I haven't talked on too long and hope this satiates the curiosity...... But only for a little while CID there's much much more to come :-)

Do you live in an area that is suffering from drought, or do you get decent rains? What are your temps like?
I spend my winters dreaming of places with palm trees.

Klueless_Kristie 02-01-2014 12:28 AM

Hi hi laurel live in Brisbane in Australia. We r in summer at the moment and temps range during day from 20-35 degrees some times more with 70-80% humidity. Winter days between 15-20 degrees lower humidity than summer.

It has rained here for 3 days on and off with water pooling in yard but today is beautiful n sunny with temp of 26 degrees with 55% humidity.

The neighbours have palm trees approx 3 story's high :-)

Hope this helps

weederwoman 02-01-2014 12:38 AM

Yes, I saw the trees in your earlier photos. Gave me mental moments in Hawaii.
Looks like you live in orchid heaven.

Wow wow wow!!! Its HUGE!! But i dont see any glass, is it enclosed? Or is it a shade house of sorts?

Klueless_Kristie 02-01-2014 08:35 PM

It's covered with shade cloth that was put up by grandfather in late 70s early 80s so it's really worn and a lot of light gets in.

I found about 4 sheets of glass on the ground that are about 1mtr long by 30cm wide that I have no idea what he used for??? Thought I might b able to rig something up for higher humidity but worried if I do it wrong i will have cooked orchids :-s lol

---------- Post added at 01:35 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:33 PM ----------

Apparently the whole orchid house was full top to bottom before he passed but that was about 5yrs ago and over time people came in and took what they wanted and a lot died from neglect while they sat inside.

K.C. 02-01-2014 10:06 PM

You have some room, so nice!!

Orchid revival!!!! Is it even possible

Doing this mass hanging in the greenhouse and unsure how to check if there are active roots in this mass, if its dead and whether revival is even possible. Have no idea what's all over it and would love your ideas on WHat THa happened lol

Underneath. I can see shrivelled pseudobulbs but there is like a black and green mould all over them??

vjo 02-04-2014 10:22 PM

YIkes!! I don't know what it was but now I just think it is dead! It looks to me as if it is covered in mold or something. Sorry, I don't think it is salvageable...Jean

Tabbyblack13 02-04-2014 11:04 PM

I don't what it could be but I think it's dead.

Yeah whatever plant that is, it's going in the garbage at that point.

Klueless_Kristie 02-05-2014 10:25 AM

Lol I hear what your all saying :-s

I have to say, on this journey I have encountered such a massive range of learning curves, plus I'm the princess of orchid googles lol it seems like any orchid issue that may be out there, is cropping up on my beginners stage of reviving s this orchid greenhouse lol
