My "limitations" in choosing the orchids are pretty much only 2 - growing conditions and space. I grow in Miami, outside year round, so our constantly hot weather makes it pretty much hostile for many many orchid species I love and would like to grow. I did my share of mistakes and ordered orchids not researching prior for the growing conditions and temps till this June. Nowadays, before I buy any, I do search, care sheets, tips and growing conditions other on this board or online use, than decide to buy. The other is space - balcony, so limited, and with some 130ish orchids there is not much space left. Other than that - I pretty much get anything and everything I like and can grow here in Miami, plus fits my balcony. I do tend to buy mostly species and also more rare, uncommon, unusual, weird orchids, these are my favorites. Love mini's, micro orchids, Bulbos, Dendros and Catasetums are among my very favorite ones! But I have so so many different species that I really have no favorite one for sure:-)

I also see ones on here I like or in books. I have had my eye on a bessea (sp) phrag for years, I fell in love with it in a book. I will some day have one I just must . Any way some I just like some just don't do much for me and some grow on you. I have always like the species even though I only have 2 but I also like the hybrids because they usually have more stunning blooms.

I am trying to do mine slow so I can make sure that I can take better care of them as I have killed way to many and am tired of it. I was lucky in that I got several different kinds from a friend for free as he is a florist unfortunately I did not find this forum so most of them I lost.

Isn't it strange how certain ones take our eye. For at least now the jewels are ones I am not at all interested in. Even thought I kind of like there leaves but no, don't have to have one at least yet.

For a while Cymbidiams held no interest for me, now I want one really bad, so I guess one never knows.

Sorry about your mini just add ice phal, I have 3 of these and they are all doing great, I love them.

I agree. How something catches the eye. I didn't take pics of the first orchid I ordered off of eBay. It didn't last a week. At the end, it only had the pseudobulb left and that's where I found this group. You guys helped save it...

Proud grower here!
