This is pretty "typical", if there is such a thing:
In Bud Paphiopedilum Fairrieanum Orchid Species RARE T6Z | eBay

And yes I know you said you already looked! But when I saw it I wanted to point out it was typical.

You can email Glen before you order to make sure you are getting what you want. My past interactions with him have been very open and upfront. My sense is he wants happy customers (smart).

Sounds like your brother knows how to make you happy. My mom sends me money for orchids too. I call this "enabling".

Just a note: I think the cat you are getting is a catasetum? 'Cat' is the accepted shortening for Cattleya. Catasetum is something else: not sure but it's something like Ctsm? Someone tell me if I've got that right...
Unless you are getting a Cattleya!

No Catasetum. Pilatum x Expansum Should be really dark colored.
Thank you for the correction. I usually do (Catt) for cattleya. lol.

Just like Terri says, you cannot judge by the pictures on the vendors' websites unless they are selling a division.
The picture is only a "representative" of what you could expect, but your chance of getting the one that looks like the picture is almost zero as they are all different (although not as crazy different as hybrids resulting from mixing two very different varieties of long history). subtle difference in shape, size, color tone and color distribution...
so it actually doesn't matter where you buy paphs from. What matters is the quantity to increase the chance of getting something you like.
Buy a whole bunch and you might end up with something you find really attractive.

The ones photographed are usually what they keep for future breeding or division. They will rarely sell the top quality unless there are many many of high quality flowers within one grex, which is not usually the case. sigh~
