I would recommend cutting both spikes all the way back to the base of the plant. If you leave them on it may try and flower again. What you really want right now is for the plant to spend it's energy growing new roots, not flowers.

When you do repot it put it in the absolute smallest pot you can get away with. The larger the pot, the slower the media dries in the center.

Hello Highlandfashionista, I have that green pot, but mine is crystal clear. It is a really excellent pot. My favorite Phalaenopsis is growing and thriving in this pot. It is designed to provide maximum air exchange. I have had my plant in this pot for six months now. The only thing preventing me from buying this pot for all of my Phalaenopsis is the cost of the pot! In the USA it costs over US$25.00.

There used to be a member of the forum named Lorna Heath who used to sell these pots--they come in a variety of colours. She is in England, but she hasn't posted lately.

Yes, that particular pot looks like just the thing I need for this climate, although I am equally curious to see how my poor sick phal does in the vase. I am surprised that there aren't more pots out there like that. That's it settled then, I'm in for a few of them.

Hi everyone. A bit of an update. Since I wrote that initial post (my first), things have moved on a bit. Scroll up and look at my setup then. Two plants, on top of the red set of drawers I keep my knitting needles in. Now look at the attached pics of my setup now.

Yeah, I think I might be on the brink of a bit of an obsession.

Westward window, a little supplemental lighting for the dreary Scottish winter days. the plants on top are over a saucer that is covered with a mesh grid so air can circulate underneath. If the central heat is blasting I put water in the saucers to give more humidity. The smaller baby plants and sick rescues vase culture ones are on the bottom shelf, with slightly less direct light. Not that direct sunlight is EVER a threatening presence in Scotland, mind you.
Not pictured: my new seedling ehat mat and clip-on fan.

Your input on this setup and any pointers would be appreciated.
