Anybody dealt with freezing weather and a stuck package?
So my Cym. Little Black Sambo, should have been here yesterday. But it is now supposed to be here today. It had a heat pack in there to help cover it. We now have ice and snow here and still coming down...question is if it gets stuck somewhere in transit because of the weather will it be okay?
It comes from Seattle Orchids. I ordered their heat pack service and they said they would also wrap it in their thermal wrap stuff to add extra protection.

Cymbidium is not so extremely cold sensitive, they actually love cold and it makes them bloom, of course, not freezing I suppose. However, heat pack works for 72 hours, thermo packing will also protect it, and we should expect that when package is handled it is not expose to outside freezing temps for too much, otherwise for some reason post office or whoever carrier is would leave it outside for any reason for hours. I hope and believe it will be fine:-)

me to...it is the only place that sells them that I have found thus far. My college shut down all schools within I would say 100 miles or so have shut down schools and offices due to ice and snow.

I would say we got almost 2 inches over night. BRRRRRR
It is also seriously jacking with my finals schedule.

If it is in the upper twenties, with good packing, your orchid should be fine. Most companies look at the forecasts and if the weather is going to be iffy, they won't ship your orchids/tropical plants until they know the orchids will arrive safely. So, if they shipped them, you can usually be confident they will arrive safely.

This is a warm growing cymbidium, I am not sure if it is in full winter sleep or not as of yet. as well. Called post office and they are running behind by about 5-6 hours. So I have my fingers crossed it will be okay. The Ice and snow are beginning to melt off, but I am afraid it will refreeze tonight. LOW OF 19* AHHHHHHHHH!!! That is just to freaking cold for comfort. brrrr.
Thanks for all the help btw.

I just got a package from seattle orchids today and I didn't get the heat pack, but the packaging was fantastic. It's cold here (not as cold as there) and it was left outside even though the box was clearly labeled not to be left in freezing temps! My plant is also a warm grower and was perfectly fine. I hope this helps to ease some of your worry. Let us know how it arrives. Good luck!

thanks I am still waiting on a call from the post office. I live on dirt roads so there are no salt trucks coming through.
They also said they were hoping that they would get mail by 2:00. So I have my fingers crossed that it will be in there.

I hope it somehow gets to you today but as long as they keep the box inside the post office overnight, it will be okay. Good luck!!!!

Good luck!
Just got a delivery today (details in phal hybrids...). According to the tracking on it, it was in the delivery van for 11 hours! As far as I know the back of those is not heated, no heat pack in it, and we are close to (though still above) freezing here. My mixed phals look fine though! Think there might be a little cold damage on a few, but not much. Most perfectly fine and I think all will be fine! Hope yours are OK too!
