$30 for oncidium twinkle is too much. I mean even in NYC where the rent is really high(er than anywhere else in the US I think), oncidium twinkle is cheaper than that. I'm talking about the cheapest place in town, not a regular florist, which of course charge more to make margins. Ex) paphiopedilum used to be $25-35 last year, now there are up to $45 (almost always, they are not even open, and you know how most of them hybrids are garbage basically, no more shopping for me for that price. lol ), and then the price goes up to a little over $100. even if it has no tag (which they do not care) and the flower quality is much less than the average. horrible!!!
The sales at NY Botanical Garden Orchid Show in the spring is crazy because I dont' think I have seen anything at $30. The cheapest one I saw was a small miniature orchid (phal), ok, it was like $30 or 28, but that is insane!
The rest are all somewhere between $49 and $100. Average being $70 something. paphs, miltoniopsis, dendrobiums,,, It is just ridiculous. plants are coming in from all over the place and the season being cold at the time, dendrobium phal types are usually severely damaged. I learned the hard way.
The qualiy is just so so. Some are good, some are bad, and most are just ok, but not worth the money they charge.
I think almost every plant they sell come with tag though. At least the ones I bought and the ones I looked at, which is almost everything in the store, had white or yellow tag showing the parentage, cross name, and often the name of the nursery it came from.

So I order online, mostly from an awesome grower in the south of the country, and a lot from Germany and Italy.

I should totally move over there!
Germany sounds like an Orchid mecca in Europe?
Thank goodness that's where I'm moving to. Yay!!! but not anytime soon.
but so far, I'm alright here. Good thing that I have done my shopping diligently and gathered up quite a few plants.
