The first thing that I ever do is re-pot whether the plant has flowers or not. I do not trust the plastic shrink wrap and damp moss they put them in to travel in. The whole concept that orchid mass producers have is to keep the plant alive during shipping and then for a while after that. Most people tend to just throw their orchids out after they bloom because in the end they die. Plastic keeps air from reaching the roots, it keeps too much humidity in. Roots are like the gills of fish, they need to breath. In the case of orchids they need to photosynthesize too so they need to be out in the open where light hits them. Sorry to say but after a while in a store most orchids are gonners. I figure you need to get them within a day or two of coming to a store to get an absolutely healthy orchid. On the other hand, they are tenacious plants and there is a chance of saving them, so I wish you luck.
