You are right! Some people have admitted they are literally taking over their homes, even their LIVES!
So THIS is why they're the most successful plant family!

I'm increasing my odds for success, because I know that poor culture or incorrect temp/ light may set me back 1-2 years in terms of blooming. So I figure if I have enough diversity, then I can spread out the plants via genera and location while hopefully getting at least one to bloom.
That being said, I also don't want to buy expensive orchids because I'm not confident that I will have the skill or environment for it to thrive. This has left me with a collection of mostly recovering orchids, which in turn are very slow to bloom. Go figure.
I'll probably be done at 20 orchids....unless I edit this post

I started in July too! I have 17 orchids right now, so you definitely have me beat kindra! Hubby told me I had to stop.
Even so, I have told my daughter the names of the two paphs and the dracula that I want, so that she can give my hubby hints for Christmas.

I don't think there's anything wrong with having a lot of orchids, it's a hobby. If you enjoy it, that's what matters. We all kid about having a problem, but if you can handle the number of plants that you have and you're not going into debt over it, then it shouldn't be over analyzed.
And in our defense, I think most of us buy bag baggies and clearance orchids because we don't have easy access to an orchid greenhouse. Sure we can buy online, but it's different to pick out your own plant, look at it, touch it.

I used to always be getting new pets at one time, so my husband is glad that I mostly get orchids instead now. They sure do brighten up a dull winter!

Wow... I knew it was addicting, but now I'm feeling behind. Hahaha
Although, I don't think I can buy a seedling and wait that long... Not yet. I got my first online order orchid a couples of months ago, and it wasn't in bloom. I was thinking it would be fall of next year that I would see a spike, BUT it is now currently in spike. Woohoo!!!!!
Now I just have to let it be and hope nothing blasts.
Unfortunately, I recently found out there are some local greenhouses about a half hour away and I have been avoiding going.... I don't know that I could take the temptation.

The plant wasn't for sale - but I asked *really* nicely and they said yes! I'm excited about it. The tag says it was brought in from Ecuador... but not sure of the story beyond that. I think it hasn't had much attention and water - I want to see if I can get it to REALLY grow.
