San Antonio, Texas where we have long, hot summers and frequently very beautiful days in the fall and winter. Today it was warm and sunny.

No snow yet, just LOTS of rain - BUCKETS!! Makes the humidity factor nice for the chids!

Yep Origonians don't tan they rust! Don't Californicate Origon. Heard it all when I was out there for several years. Miss the southern Oregon coast (Cymbidium capital of the earth!)

I sure love rusting away in Florida. I miss Oregon sometimes, but I can't take the never-ending rain, 18 years of that was plenty.

I agree. The pictures of the never-ending warmth (the fact I had tomatoes in the ground in April) are overshadowed by the ice/sleet/constant gray of wet season. Still, if you wanted to grow Cymbidiums, I can't think of a better place than southern Origon coast (sp intended!) Those things grew like dandelions grow here!

I live in Melbourne Beach , Fl. south of the Cape, about 100 miles east of Orlando. We are just about at the freeze line..

So cool-growing orchids aren't out of the question?

Linnie 11-13-2006 05:15 PM

Ross,

Naahhhhh, I don't think cool growing ones would do very well here. I'll leave them for you to grow. Besides there are so many warm growing ones to go through first..

I just bought my first warm tolerant Cymbidium Everglades Gold on Sunday and hope that will do well here in Florida

Tony, I love rusting away here in Florida too. Speaking of RUSTING, I was told that Brevard County was the rust capital of the country.. meaning anything we put our orchids on outside has to be rustrproof.. It's still worth it, I feel like I am in paradise every day
