I live off 44th St. near Rivertown Mall.
I love to go to "The Gardens". I sometimes, attend the culb which meets there and expect to be there this month.
I usually go to the gardens during the week when it is less busy. I'll try to go on a Saturday but I will send a post asking if you will be there.
I took several pics of the huge vanda hanging there, which I was told is 80 years old. I also took one of 2 little boys 'being little boys'. They couldn't resist putting part of one foot into the soil. I have to admit.....those naughty boys are my Great-Grandsons. I will scan it and post it in this thread later.

Hey Grandma Marilyn,
Would love to see you at 'The Gardens'. Like I said, am there Saturdays from mid-to-late mornings until they close @ 5pm. (Not the last week-end of May however, going camping). Look for the volunteer hanging around the Orchid Wall or ask for Sue, the Orchid Girl.
'Naughty boys' of all ages and genders get off the brick walks and onto the soil. The only problem is that new plantings are not always obvious, especially new starts like ferns which are easily crushed. Actually adults seem to be worse than the kids. I have had to shoo out adults who climbed over plants to get into the middle of the orchid display for pictures! There they are, crouched down and smiling, totally unaware that the coat, purse, camera case, whatever hanging off their shoulder is breaking blooms off the plants behind them. I don't know how many times I cringe when I discover that a year of work just went down the tubes when a bloom (or sometimes the entire bloom spike) is broken off an orchid that has been on display for less than an hour. Arghhh!
Yes, the big vanda is beautiful. Will save comments on it until you post your pictures.

Hi Thakshila! Welcome! I love tea and sorry to say I didn't realize that is where it may come from. Guess I have been out of school too long.
I'm also not familiar with that type of orchid. Please tell us more. It's wonderful to be able to bring countries closer together via Orchid Board. Glad to have you join OB.

This scorpian orchid grows wild and its life span is unlimited .Very popular here .
got many colors like dark brown , pale yellow and
redish brown .They bloom in hundreds and form several spikes.
Here is a http://www.orchidboard.com/community...los-aeris.html thread about this .
