Okay, I'm starting to wonder if we shouldn't schedule an orchid get together.. Seems like there are a *ton* of us that qualify as CNY (or have ties to the area )..

(which is probably because our winters are AWFUL and we need the flowers to keep our spirits up until the gray goes away.. )

Any of you still in the Syracuse area, I plan to be there June 22-25. Would be glad to meet up with other orchid folks.

There does not seem to be a 12-step program for orchid growers. I heard that someone tried to start one once, but nobody would join it.

I am in West Michigan, Grand Rapids area. Michigan is a land of 4 seasons, often in the same week. This was well illustrated just this past week. It was pushing 80F last Friday. Saturday it had dropped to the 50s. 40s on Sunday. Monday snow was predicted, but didn't materalize though it dropped into the 20s overnight. We went through 4 seasons in 5 days. Today (Friday 1 week later mid 60s & thunderstorms.) Always interesting.

If you are ever in the Grand Rapids area, be sure to stop off at Meijer Gardens and Sculpture park. I have volunteered there for all of the 13 years it has been open. I am on the orchid team there. I am so not an orchid expert, but I get to do the orchid display in the main conservatory. Only a novice grower (about 30 plants, mostly phaels), but have a good eye for display. Love it. The team provides wonderful plants. I do the display. Care team does all the work. I get all the kudos and compliments. Works for me.

Hi Ross,

I'm from your neck of the woods. Born & raised in Evart (about 1/2 hour from you). Cadillac was where we would go Saturday nights as they pretty much rolled up the sidewalks in our small town. Haven't lived there since graduating high school. Still have family in the area though.
