Root rot on Vanda?

Hi,

Lately, I've been noticing that my vanda has been losing some of its leaves. I thought it was natural, but after looking at its roots, I'm not so sure anymore. There are a lot of dead roots, and there are some roots that have black dots on them. I also saw a black root with little white stuff on it.

Is this root rot?

Are roots soft and mushy feeling? Or dried out feeling?

Do you grow this bare root? Potted? In a basket?
