Default Oncidium making a comeback. What about ugly foliage?

I believe this is Oncidium Twinkle. I saved it from being tossed into the trashcan at Lowe's one day. I didn't think it would recover, but the leaves looked healthy and it had one viable root so I decided to give it a go.

The new growths you can see in the pictures, but you can also see the unsightly shriveled bulbs. Anything I can do about those, or should I accept them as reminders of his previous torture?

I would leave them there. In a few year you'll have so many new growths, that taking away the most shriveled ones won't harm the plant.

Just leave them alone give it a year and can then remove. Its not pretty but it does not cause any more shock to the plant.

No one grows oncidiums for their foliage.
The masses of flowers more than make up for the fairly ugly leaves.

What Bill said. Oncidium foliage isn't what's nice to look at. Also, I've never seen oncidium twinkle at Lowe's. The arching to the leaves, looks a lot like the Oncidium Sweet Sugar that I purchased at Lowe's, which is also a very nice flower.

Looks like this when in bloom:

Also, even if those bulbs are gross looking, they are providing energy and water for the plant, so I agree, leave them in place.

Shriveled bulbs give the plant character. It adds to the texture, color and form. If the leaves have fungi infestation and endangers the plant that's when you need to worry; otherwise its only mechanical damage that can be overlooked in time when the new growths provide you with beautiful leaves....and the old ugly leaves will just wither and fade.

Random Gemini,

Wow that Onc is beautiful! I hazard a guess that mine is twinkle because when looking at the tag it came with the picture showed a ton of tiny little white flowers.

The general consensus is to keep the ugly little bulbs so that is what I'm going to do! Can't wait to update you all with a bloom picture.

Only thing that makes me question if it was a twinkle is the phulbs. Mine are much smaller and are in full spike...and the phulb shape looks different...

Thank you! The blooms are about done on my sweet sugar now and I'm so sad. The color is so brilliant and cheerful. I can't wait for it to bloom for me next year.

If it showed tiny white flowers, then it might be a twinkle! The white one, I believe is fragrant, in a good way! I want one of these, maybe I'll get lucky and find one at Lowe's this weekend.

Congrats and enjoy it!
