Are there any programs or references to help a shopper find a specific orchid for sale? I see very few "wanted" posts in the classified ads here. I figure many more members are in search of that one special orchid, and I wonder what resources they use. I have a list of about 8 catalogues I have saved for reference, but usually none have what I am looking for, and googling the name plus "for sale" rarely helps. Thanks
A lot of vendors have orchids that they don't list on their websites for whatever reason. I think your best bet is to talk to vendors who have knowledge in your areas of interest.
I agree, talk to the vendor. I'm perfectly happy to choose from what's available to me, but I do have a couple of species on my wish list that I haven't seen available for sale. There could be a reason why it's not available, like it not being very popular in the hobby. I have one orchid that isn't very popular and I just sort of lucked into it by being there when they had a few divisions of it available for sale.
It can be difficult to find a specific orchid. It's a good idea to make a 'wish list' and keep your eye out for orchids on your list. Some of them will become available sooner or later.
Thanks so much for the orchidmall information. It sounds like a great place to start. The plant I am presently looking for is a cattleya (laelia) regnellii (lundii). I've been lucky finding things locally, and have only had to mail order twice, so this is relatively new territory for me.
