Hi gang--

For those who are in the midwest, wanted to pass along the Kroger has onc. alliance hybrids in at least some of its stores. They're large, healthy, blooming plants for $25. Most are single spikes, most are named cv's (although older grexes if my research is correct), and they seem to be large cv's (the spikes on some were the better part of three feet tall and the leaves approaching a foot and a half in length).

I figure they're probably in most local Krogers if they showed up in my relatively tiny home town, so worth checking out. The supplier on the tag is listed as Crystal Company, and the website at Welcome to Crystal Company has a partial listing of what they're supplying.

BTW, two followed my home--a Miltassia Charles M. Fitch 'Izumi' and a Brsdm. Gilded Urchin 'Ontario.' Both are slightly fragrant (remind me of cocoa puffs) and have the spidery Brassia form. The Izumi is pale green with pink/lavendar spotting and the Ontario is gold with brown.

Thanks for the update (warning)! My Kroger (King Soopers out here in CO) has that same company from time to time and I bought a NOID looking oncidium a while back. When I brought it home I researched the bloom to try to identify it. To my surprise it turned out to be a Beallara Howard's Dream! Unfortunately it will always be a NOID, but I was shocked to see a named hybrid at my local grocery store.

Virtually all of the plants in my store had tags (I checked--maybe just lucky here), so with luck others will be able to find some nice cv's as well!
