Default Dying orchid

Dear members,
I am new to this forum and would like to say hello to all of you.
I have orchids for 4 years and their number is growing slowly. All of them are phalaenopsis and i would say that i have some experience with them. They are growing and blooming and are really nice.
But last year i decided to try a new kind of orchid. I still don't know if it is miltonia or miltoniopsis. However, at first it was nice and green. But gradually it started to loose its leaves. Last weeks it became brown and i think that it is dying. (not think but sure )
If some of you have more experience and could help saving it, would be great
I will attach a photo so that you can see what has left from this orchid.
Thank you in advance!

It's pretty much deceased.

The more I look at the photo the more that it seems to me that it has contracted a form of rot, particularly if it went brown like that in a period of a week.

The most interesting is that when it started to dry i took it out from the pot and the roots were fine. What would happen if i leave it in water only?

Rot. Pure and simple. Just rot. They rot from the bottom up.

Default Dying orchid

I am learning everyday the warning signs of environmental eminent death of orchids: wet roots, stagnant air, too cold temperatures for the particular plant's culture. As Mr Mickelso states it is a case of "rot". I do not have a lot experience with Oncidiums.

I have a couple of these plants whose cultural requirement for the winter season is to dry out between watering. Mine can tolerate night temperatures to 55*F. I have them growing in bright light in front of a western facing, glass brick wall. I have an oscillating fan on a timer moving air throughout the room and I have a humidifier. I have provided this environment to eliminate the presence of wet roots, too cold temperatures, and stagnant air.

Your plant must have experienced some of these variables of orchid demise. I hope you do not give up on this orchid variety as they are very rewarding to grow.

Matt, what is the bottom one? berregeara? Very pretty. I agree. These are very easy plants to grow and bloom consistently. Please don't give up.

Hi James. That bottom one is an Oncidium Pacific Sunrise Hakalau. The one on top is a Miltonidium Bartley Schwartz 'Albino'.
