Is it necessary to refrigerate seaweed extract?

The theory is that it will prolong it's life - kept cool, and out of light. This makes sense for most organics.
Rarely does it come that way from the shelf, though.

As Jeremy suggested, it is probably better to keep it cool. More importantly, you need to protect it against light. The plant hormone (IAA, a natural form of auxin) is highly sensitive to light. This applies to synthetic auxin (KLN, superthrive), too. From a scientific paper I read, synthetic IBA is less sensitive to light, but it still degrades fairly rapidly.

Lord thats the truth. I set mine under my a/c unit. It kept cool and in the shade under my curtains. Mine has been here since august...still working. My den. Antennatum, that I almost killed with fear of over watering so I under watered.....whoopsie!! Lets see I now have 15 new growths and counting since using that once weakly every 2 weeks! Well that and proper care....

I've always kept my KelpMax in the fridge.

As others have said, I don't believe it is necessary to refrigerate seaweed extract, however, if you keep it in a cool, dark place, it will last much longer at the full strength dosage before it starts to degrade.

Yea, I keep my KelpMax in the fridge as well... I believe that on Rays site, he says if it (KelpMax) is kept in the fridge (or in a cool, dark place), that it lasts for two years, before losing some of its potency.

I agree that keeping it in a cool place is a good idea. I recommend buying the smallest bottle available. Large bottles will last too long and may start to loose potency before you use it all. I just keep mine in an indoor closet that's fairly cool.

KelpMax has a preservative in it, so the manufacturer states 2 years, period.
I'll bet its even longer of kept refrigerated and dark, but echoing an earlier comments: what makes you think you're going to have it around that long?

I think sometimes we just do things to make ourselves 'feel good'. Maybe it will work .005% better if it's stored in the refrigerator? That's probably reason enough for me.
