My Paphs. and a Phrag in bud/bloom
The Paph. I got at Ray's plant sale is blooming now and I love it! Thanks Ray! The bud opened 3 days ago, don't know if the dorsal will straightenn up more, but it is gorgeous as is. The tongue twister for a name: Paph. ANG-THONG var ALBA 'IN CHARM' x NIVEUM var 'PATHANA' FCC/AOS) x Paph. NIVEUM 'IN CHARM' BM/TPS
My wardii is still making progress, albeit at a snails pace.
Last week a Phrag. arrived from a grower in Michigan, in bud. The grower doesn't know what color it will be, so it will be a surprise. It has one growth, a first bloom. The tag reads: Phrag. besseae var flavum x schilmii. I have it sitting in a saucer with water, as some here on the board recommend, but all that water makes me very uneasy. Although the buds have developed more since its arrival, which could be a good sign - still, I don't feel good about it being so wet. *sigh*
Now for my usual lousy pictures

Great buds n blooms! Both my Phrags with besseae and schlimii in them are sitting in water and about to bloom and they have been happy. So I wouldn't worry about it too much. It seems to be what they like.

Phrag. Hanna Popow. It's fine to keep it that wet. Google the name and you will see an idea of what it might look like!

Ooh, I love the white one you got from Ray! He has great plants doesn't he? Can't wait to see the others open up! Not able to give you any growing advice, as I dont grow any Paphs at the moment, (yet), sorry... So, I'll leave that to the experts above!

About wardii, their buds develop super slow (made to torment us Paph newbies I think), and they are also prone to blast... My wardii is in low bud again, so I'm soon going to chew my nails off in anticipation. Last year, the bud was about to open when it blasted.
Having had a Phrag (Green Hornet) for a year now, I can tell you this: YOU CAN NOT WATER IT TOO MUCH (it's not true for all Phrags, but according to those more knowledgeable it seems yours is one of these thirsty things). I was really worried about having mine standing in a saucer with water at first, so I didn't, which cost mine one of its growths... So keep the saucer, just remember to change the water at least once a week.
