Id suggest just leave it for now as and see if it manages to push the tip out and away as the spike gets bigger.

I actually have a couple of phals that are doing the same thing right now, which is weird since this is the first time I see this ever on my phals and all of a sudden it's more than just one freak incidence.

I've left them alone up to now and one of them has sorted itself out and gone through the leaf above it and are now spiking upwards. I'll try to take some pictures and post them later. It's a bit difficult to explain the different cases of weirdness...

Nope - it's inbetween two leaves like a spike would come out, but I think it got scared and went back inside I tried tugging on it gently with no movement from the spike

How strange! Maybe I'll cut the top of the loop in hopes that it will grow out. Should I then put cinnamon on the end of the cut part?

I'd love to see your freaky plant pics, too!

There was a post not too long ago about the same thing. I have a mini phal with a loop. It pushed through the leaf and came back out the other side. It should correct itself

I've seen this happen before.

I would cut the leaf a little so the growing spike will make its way out of it and up where it should point to, but would not touch the spike itself in fear of breaking it off.

Good luck!

I decided to operate Then I applied Keiki Pro on both ends cut with a new razor blade. I'll let you know if anything grows out of that.

Thank you all for your input!

This happens form time too time, it's nothing to really worry about. I've found it best to just let it do it's things, you risk damaging the plant more than necessary if you try to dig it out. More often than not the spike finds its way out eventually.

I'd say cut it off. Its already twisted and deformed. Plus the tip may fail, even if you do release it successfully. It is receiving less light and more humidity than the rest of the spike.

Wouldn't you say it's better to leave it be than cut it off? If you leave it there is a chance it makes it's way out and you get flowers then there a chance that is aborts.

If you cut it off, there's no chance of flowers.
