My first Vanda were given to me. There was no internet available at that time to refer to and find out what I was doing wrong, so they died over a winter season. This was a long time ago when I was in grad school at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee.

Recently (June 2013) I was looking around this forum and came across the subforum: Vanda Alliance -- Neofinetia. Based on suggestions from members, I bought four, Neofinetia falcata plants. These four are not only surviving but I now own many more of them in just five months. These orchids are really easy to grow. Because of their miniature size, I can grow four to six varieties in the same space as one regular Vanda.

Here is a picture of one Neofinetia. Doesn't it look like a Vanda? This picture was taken a couple of weeks ago. The flower spikes have grown taller.

I bought three about a year ago.

V. Pachara Delight
V. Sirip*rn Pink
V. Robert's Delight "Red Spot"

The Pachara and S. Pink are in spike right now waiting on blooms any day.

Is having the Vanda in the bathroom good enough?

Good enough? In terms of light, it would depend on which way the window is facing. They are a high light plant. Bathrooms tend to have a little more humidity, but misting works well. So does vase culture, if humidity is a problem.

I am finding that the one that I have in a vase has nicer roots, but it is easier to find space for hanging baskets. I also have to be very careful not to put the vase in too hot of sun, but vandas need lots of light. I am wondering if perhaps the vase was covered while in the sun it would help.
