Hello,
I have 4 or 5 orchids exhibiting the same type of problem. New leaf seems to turn mushy and yellow with some brown spots. Lost an orchids to this last week but didnt really worry as it has no roots and looked terrible to begin with. One plant had 2 basal keikis and it seems both the plant and keikis are showing the same problem.
First i need help identifying what it is: fungus? crown rot?
Secondly what can I do about it? Please keep in mind i live in Dublin Ireland so brand names of US or other non European products wont help much as we don't have the same products. Natural remedies or actual chemical components will be better.
I'm not as familiar with orchids as most others here, but that looks like a fungus to me. Here is a link where you might find some helpful info with pictures to assist you: Orchid Diseases
I can't tell what it is. You can try pouring hydrogen peroxide into the crown; it certainly won't do any harm. As always make sure that no water remains in the crown after watering or hydrogen peroxide treatment.
Thanks, I have been checking that site in the meantime and it looks like a mix of the bacterial soft and brown rot and the micro fungus, chlorotic spot virus or tiny mites. Since the only thing I have right now is cinnamon powder I have poured on the leaves for tonight. I started preparing a spray solution with cinnamon, alcohol and water that i will filter tomorrow so that i can spray it. Any other advice welcome.
