I actually wanted to ask about dracula lotax. I'm in a cooler growing zone, being in WA, and have considered this little guy. Given the homework you did on this orchid, would you recommend it to a beginner in a cooler area?

I love Dracula's and Masdies, however most of them won't grow here. Even lotox was suppose to be warm tolerant, the leaves were turning brown and it was just not doing good for me. I am sure it will grow great in your zone, as far as you can provide very high humidity and excellent air movement! It needs humidity over 80% I think, it needs temps definitely max below 80, better day below 70 with substantial night drops, and it needs shady location. I am sure temps would not be problem for your zone, as well as night drops, just humidity and air movement. I read many people moved draculas to locations in the house like cellar where it is very humid as far as there was breeze and some light.

Looks like you have some nice plants and have gotten the hang of orchids. You have many varieties, perhaps one day I will expand as well. And sometimes despite great care and attentiveness plants die. Congrats on your new found success!

@^ I agree I was given a huge floral azalea bush after my grandmothers death, I followed the directions to a T and it still died. Did everything I was told to do...still died....You forgot you also became a new parent to small de flasked babies. lol!!

Dracula lotax will grow like a weed in our conditions. Needs somewhat lower light and good humidity.

MANY MANY THANKS, and yes, I am not upset anymore when some die, I learn that there is only so much I can do, and if some does not like it, than here she goes, to orchid heaven join the others:-)))

I was considering growing this in a small terrarium in my office window with my mini phals, so it sounds like this might be a good fit! Thanks to you both!
