Absolutely agree with jeremyinsf. It's watering the mostly kills them, I find it's amazing what you can grow at lower temps when the plants are kept dry. I just grew thaianum for example outside all winter with trouble and the roots are fine. Just gave them a splash every now and then and grew them dry.

Paphs and Phrags can cope with some punishment.....just not overwatering (and burning sun of course).

Hello again! I picked the plant up Saturday morning and it's pulled through indeed. It was swaddled in shredded newsprint and wrapped in a newspaper in a small pot with bark and stone substrate. The roots look great (though so different compared to phal. green, and a bit hairy too).

There was one mature leaf slightly bent with this dark brownish spot underneath. I trimmed it near the base after wiping the leaf in alcohol, and dusted the cut with cinnamon. It also looks like it could be suffering from some type of cell collapse/pitting(i juuuust read a few articles from a different forum that suggest it's a heat/light/moisture issue in paphs but for whatever reason I can't post the link at this time.), but the color is uniform and the leaves are otherwise smooth, shiny and firm. The spot didn't seem mushy, perhaps it was some healed damage, but i decided to just remove it and wipe the all the leaves down with cinnamon water anyhow.

I spotted one very tiny blonde bug (smaller than a thrip even) when I was drowning the entire medium top to bottom, but nothing else has surfaced...it seemed more like a little dust-detrivore and I've yet to see anything else crawl up.

Sooo, I guess I'll name the first three growths after Jean, Tommy and RJ! Thanks everyone for resting my fears about this little plant!

it doesn't look like I can link to photos at this time, some business about too many URLs, I'll have to try again later!
