So my Monn. Millenium Magic Witchcraft is in bud and I am super excited but I am wondering what exactly are the little straw-colored items at the end of the spike. Something associated with reproduction?

Oh!!! You'd better post pics when this one blooms! I'm really excited for you!! I've heard that this plant gets quite large and I'm not sure I have space for one, but this is an orchid I would LOVE to grow if I could!

I'm gonna say that those are blasted buds, sorry. But you already have so many and it's not like a Phalaenopsis where there's always the chance it could grow more buds. As far as I know Catasetums are more like Vandas where they open all the buds up at once, so with only about 3 or 4 blasted buds there you're not going to miss to much compared to what you already have.

Lastly, when in Rome. Let's see those flowers when the pop!

that small protuberance at the very end of the spike, sometimes enclosed in protective scales contains undeveloped buds....
I am very excited about your buds....please post pictures of your opened blooms....

Okay what about on the actual buds themselves mine has a slight white growth at the base that comes 1/2 way up each bud very thin. Though but firm...is this a way to keep the blooms stable post blooming?
