That's good, it is rare that this spore affects ppl, but I thought I'd mention it, just in case. After looking up the symptoms, after I posted, I agree that it doesn't seem like this is the issue, but you would know better than I would, what your symptoms are.
Sorry to hear that it will take two weeks to see the Dr.... That's crazy! If it was the sphag, that would probably be too long a wait (although, you would know it, and realize that you needed to see a doc. earlier that that).
Hopefully the cortisone will help, and I'd do as Leafmite suggested, and get one or two types of media, and stick with that... Using gloves when you touch/repot new orchids.
... I never knew that Vanilla (the plant) could cause irritation like that! If I get one, I'll watch out for it! I have somewhat sensitive skin lol. (with poison ivy, all I have to do is
look at it the wrong way... And Bam! I have poison ivy all over.... I hate poison ivy!!
