How Large/Small are Spider Mites? Female
Default How Large/Small are Spider Mites?

I got a new Phal today and I noticed little spider looking creatures in the moss. At first, I thought it was an ant, but upon closer inspection, it looked like a baby spider and even jumped off the moss I was separating into the bulk of the stuff I had removed and climbed down its little web.

I removed all moss and rinsed the roots under the shower massager for a good 5 or so minutes to get every last bit of moss off the roots. The little creatures went with the moss.

Those are probably not spider mites. They're probably just spiders. To test for spider mites, take a white paper towel, wet it a little and wipe the underside of the leaf. If you see tiny red dots, those are spider mites.

No, they were visible to the naked eye. Either way, glad they are gone...yuck!

gently shook out the plant careful of its roots and leaves, used bayer neem oil spray let set for 5-10minutes then sprayed like a mad woman with a water hose and sprayer. then re potted in fresh orchid moss medium and soaked in water with about a 1/2 capsule of physon 20 in 6 gallons of water. Just to be on the safe side since they all come in to my house. i had another large plant come from the same seller here in Texas and did not want to take any chances. Will most likely do another immersion in about 2 days spraying and sitting again until I am sure there are no new eggs hatching. Ugh I can handle many a thing but ANTS are not one of them. Bluck!!

I think I have read that the tiny read spiders (tiny, but easily visible to the naked eye) are predators of spider mites ...
