Paph. wardii and Paph. Pinocchio
Paph. wardii is making me wait. The stem is taller now, but the bud seems kind of small and skinny to me. Looks like it's going to be a small flower. No matter, I'll take it.
Pinocchio was sneaky. One day there was nothing and by the next watering there was a bud peeping out. Pinocchio has bloomed for me before, but wardii is a first-timer. Anticipation!

My wardii is slow too - the flower might be larger than you expect when it finally opens!

This anticipation is so exciting. But it looks like it takes forever until the bud opens.

Given the size and the proportion of the whole plant, I don't think the bud on your wardii is small.
It's about as normal as it gets. and yes, it does open up bigger, so no worry.
Wardii and sukhakulii both have skinny long buds, then as the pouch inside develops more, the buds will take more of a round form, then the long petals elongate, then the whole thing slowly opens up.
It looks like an album form?

@ Carpe Diem my monn "witchcraft" has been in spike now for over a month and still does not seem that close to blooming. So I understand the ANTICIPATION!! Please post pictures once this has finally bloomed should be interesting to see!

I don't think so NYCorchidman. The tag reads:
Paphiopedilum wardii
Paphiopedilum wardii 'Lula Girl' x Paphiopedilum wardii 'Joan's Choice'
Guess I should look up the parents and get some idea of what the bloom will look like. Glad to hear that the bud will fatten up some. It being so skinny made me think it will be a small flower. I inspect the bud daily.
Looks like you all know the feeling of "impending birth".
