This was in amongst my father's collection - all the rest of the pots contained orchids, but this looks completely different to all the others. Is it an orchid, or something else (possibly even a weed that has grown in an empty pot) ?

It could be. There are archids which have single leaves on a stem but I can't be sure on this one. Hopefully someone else knows.

It seems to me that is an Eucharis (Amazon Lily) but I don´t know the species. It has beautiful white flowers. It isn't an orchid but indeed worth the effort to grow it!!!
