Question
Hello. My name is Monica, I'm from Colombia but I live in Edmonton Canada. I'm glad to be part of this forum.
I have a phalaenopsis since three years ago and it gets the flower stems but it doesn't bloom!! It got the first one like nine months ago and it is long but the flower itself doesn't come out, it has three more stems that showed up like two months ago but the don't bloom either!! I used a fertilizer for blooming and that's when I started getting more stems. I didn't change the pot because I didn't want to bother the flower... I live in edmonton, AB, Canada. My plant is always in the light next to a window. Thank you for your time. Monica.

Hi Monica!
Welcome to the board.
I might be wrong but looking at your pictures it seems that there are no stems at all. Those are the aerial roots coming out everywhere.
The plant looks healthy, it will bloom when it is ready.

I agree. Those are not flower stems. They are aerial roots. You're doing a great job! Just be patient with it and I am sure it will put up a beautiful bloom for you soon!

Yes, they are roots... A lot of times, phals want to have a drop in temps at night to set spikes. This is the time of year when this typically happens so be on the look out. Spikes have a mitten looking end, don't have the whitish covering, and will grow upwards.

What should I do with this aerial roots?? If they are not flowers... can I repot now the plant? I think it needs a bigger pot. Thank you again .

Saludos y bienvenido al forum. You can definitely repot. Make sure you change all the medium, and I wouldn't go for a pot much bigger than that one. You seem to be growing it well. Do you have other orchids? Is that the spot that you grow this plant in. If it does not bloom for you maybe you need to change the culture. Drop the night tie temp as cbuchman said if that does not work try some stronger light. Good luck
A side note. It would be better in the future to be more specific than "Question" for your title.

The plant looks healthy. Eventually repotting into a slightly bigger pot with fresh potting medium is needed if the medium has decomposed. Have a look at the rootball and tips of the roots in the medium. The aerial roots should also be watered once you water. Apart from that leave them where they are.
Flower induction is carried out by keeping the plant a few (+-4) degrees of Celsius cooler than normally for 4-6 weeks in fall. Then you get flowers in winter.

Take the plant back away from the window where there is much less light. The leaves are too yellow. This will then flower in about two months. Phals need a drop in light levels not a drop in temps. They grow mostly in the tropics where there is leiitle drop in temps but they get a drop in light levels .

James, don't you have it backward? Here is info from Bob Gordon:
http://www.aos.org/images/img_conten...alaenopsis.pdf
This is not a scientific paper, but there are some horticultural papers which tested the induction of flowering in Phals.
BTW, I think his books are pretty informative even though it is a bit old.
I personally think the leaf color is pretty good. It probably can take a bit more (even for hybrids).
