My hubby did it too. Came home with my Oncidium… which I am praying I can grow. I'm in love with it already. I really, really hope I can keep it alive. It's a lovely plant. Now if these stitches would just come out so I can repot it!

A friend of mine is marrying a guy who doesn't do the flower thing either, but he completely gets her and he does sit through chick flicks with her and they share several hobbies. I think they're going to be very happy together, even though he doesn't give her flowers. I don't think a guy has to do the flower thing, as long as he shows you in other ways that he loves you.

My guy does flowers, not for just any reason though, on our anniversary and valentine's day. He has roses delivered to the door from my "secret admirer" which is just cute. We used to joke about who it might be until my daughter at around age 8 looked at my husband and said, "Why don't you throw them away? Some strange man sends her flowers every year on YOUR anniversary!" I busted up laughing. My husband had to take her aside and let her in on "the secret." LOL!

Yes please! Pics of the phal!

Ha ha ha! I met mine at a goth bar of all places! It was not exactly a place I generally look for dates, but he DJed there and was a very good one. He was actually married at the time we met. Many years later after they had divorced , we started dating. Weird how life works out...

Ok I hate to brag, but the story just keeps getting better! He drove past a hydroponics store last night and brought this home! I'm shocked he remembered I need to get some more!

If anyone is looking for Hydroton in central Ohio. Hydro Gardens Wholesale (in Lancaster) has a very good price on it. A 52L bag for $32.95.

I don't think I can even FIND it where I am. I'd have to go to Seattle to get it, which is a six hour drive from me. I'm learning the hard way that I can't buy orchids in hardware stores, because every one that I have purchased that way has come home to me with some kind of rot and we don't have an orchid grower here. I'm lucky I can get better gro bark mixes.

The oncidium that my hubby brought home? It's got a rotted bulb. I'm going to have to cut it out and of course, I got stitches on Sunday from saving the daughter's hardware store orchid that SHE brought home, so I'm not supposed to get my thumb wet until those stitches come out. I'm thinking I'm just going to break out a pair of rubber gloves and repot the sucker tomorrow, and cut that rotted bulb out because I love the plant and really want to save it.
