I would shut-down/overload Pintrest if I posted my massive wishlist on there! Nobody would even be able to see it either because I shut the site down (because, that would be the real tragedy of it all! )
Oh, and YEA!!! Always go for the $7 Phal, over the $32 + S/H
I went for a 15$ oncidium instead. Hubby and I went to the hardware store to pick up fertilizer for my African Violets, and they had an Oncidium Sweet Sugar that I watched the guy bring out on a cart to place on the shelf. I'll give it a week or so before fussing with it, but it's not been soaked to death and the pbulbs look nice and smooth and healthy. I do think it may be over potted, but if that's the worst thing that's happened to it, I'll take it!
What is it potted in? Bark or moss? If bark, I would leave it alone and not repot. When it starts to grow new shoots from the bottom of the largest pbulb, then I would repot. Oncids don't like repotting. It sets them back. The roots are very fragile and numerous. The problem will be moisture under the root mass staying much longer than elsewhere in the pot. Care must be taken to insure that this gets just slightly damp before you water again. Where oncids are grown commercially, the environment is very warm, and very breezy. Lots and lots of air movement. I keep my oncids on the dry side and they grow and flower just fine. When you repot them put a small handful of ordinary gravel in a conical pile in the bottom of the pot, place the root mass on top this and pour the media on top the roots. This will keep the root mass the same dampness as the rest of the media. Then don't repot until the new growth reach the edge of the pot.
Thanks for this! I am planning to leave it alone as much as I can. I had to repot my Oncidium Sharry Baby due to a rotted pbulb recently and I wasn't happy about it.
This one is potted in bark. It actually looks really healthy, if I can leave it alone, that would make me really happy!
