What does it mean when a thread has been closed?

It means that no more new posts can be added to it.

That's a question for one of the moderators. It may be that your thread was moved to a new forum and the one in the old forum was closed. I'm not 100% clear on how vBulletin works. If you happen to know which moderator closed the thread, you could send them a private message and ask them directly. I'm sure they would be happy to explain.

dendrochilum pulcherrimum

mystery dendrochilum

If so, they have not been closed.

Closed (or 'locked') threads will have a padlock icon over the envelop to the left of the thread.

Well.....they say there are no dumb questions. Maybe I can prove them wrong. I kept seeing a small icon that looked to me like a locked padlock - a square with an arch on top. Now that you showed me the real padlock I realize what I am seeing is something else. Maybe a tag? What does that signify? Thanks

Ah - those are tags, indicating that there are tag words associated with the post

I didn't know what those were for some time, and then still forget

User started threads are generally only closed when the topic is contentious, and there have been posts insulting to others. Moderators will comment that the thread is being closed/locked and state the reason.

Thanks. I thought the tag words were sort of required, thats why I always put them in. I guess they are not used that often since I see a lot of threads without my little "padlocks".
