I just purchased this plant from a local nursery so I can not claim credit for the spectacular blooms. They are actually rather purple in real life (not hot pink like the photo would lead you to believe) and the fragrance is wonderful and intense - like a spicy lilac! I can't say enough to recommend it! The flowers are starting to fade a bit so I had to quickly take photos to share.

Very pretty. Your camera should have a setting to get a balanced white setting where you point it at a nutral white subject like a piece of paper, press the shutter halfway and then shoot the picture which then is supposed to come out with a good rendition of the real color. But the color here is nice anyway.

Beautiful blooms on a healthy, well grown plant. Nice find. Thanks for sharing.

Gorgeous blooms on what looks like a fairly small plant!

Thanks! It might be my perspective in the photos that make it look fairly small - of course I have no idea how large these can get. The pot is 6.5" inches in diameter and the height up to the bloom is 21in. It has my permission to grow to six feet tall if it wishes.

I'd like to see a pic of the base of the pbulbs so I can see how many growth buds there are going to be.

Sure, I still have to clean up to sheaths - so it's a little messy right now but here it is...

It's also in soil right now so I think after the blooms fade, I'll repot it.

It's amazing it stayed so healthy in that dense stale soil. Yes, after the flowers start to fade, repot it. With the sheaths gone you'll see the new roots. Lay the pot on it's side, roll it around and let the plant fall out slowly. Less damage to the roots that way. Wash the soil off the roots and then repot in a loose bark mix. Put the old growth against the side so the new growth has room to grow into the center of the pot.

I'm kind of scared to look at the roots. When I bought it the soil was really wet, which makes me nervous for root rot. But the color of the flowers was just incomparable and I couldn't resist buying it. Every photo I've seen of this orchid doesn't capture the true color. It is so complex and rich. I'll keep you posted on my progress with it
