Default Photo evidence of Phal recovery after losing leaves.

Hi people.

I realize that there are tons upon heaps of questions regarding how to grow or save a Phal after it had dropped all of its leaves.

I know I posted some evidence a long time ago for Phal appendiculata growing back new leaves after dropping all of them, in the sticky http://www.orchidboard.com/community...ends-here.html And I have also mentioned a long time ago that Doritis pulcherrima has the ability to do the same. This time, I have a different species of Phal doing the same thing, and it is not from the section Parishianae. It is from the section Stauroglottis.

These are a couple of links to my photos on Flickr showing a Phalaenopsis lindenii that had dropped its leaves for a multitude of reasons.

I guarantee that I never got it this way.

Ever since I had purchased Phal lindenii it had struggled to thrive.

The first reason for struggling was because there was a period of time when I had no time to pamper my orchids. I just looked after them when I had some spare time.

Second reason was because they were in weakened states, that made way for scale insects to do their damage. I think I finally managed to kill them [scale insects] all off. They had 2 or 3 infestations in a period of a year. So far, I don't see any more of them.

Third, it may have been too warm here. My air conditioner was not pumping out cool air anymore, so the leaves may have lived shorter lives than they would've if they were kept at intermediate temperatures.

But the good news is, I do spy a new leaf emerging from the crown. These photos are the second set of photos from my own plants that provide evidence that a Phal is not dead until everything is dead.

This trait is a prevalent trait in all Phals with leaves. It is just not something a grower wants to show off or to talk about because it doesn't show off a good looking plant.

I'm not necessarily interested in showing off a great looking plant all the time. I post photos like these for the purposes of education.

If the leaf loss is not from crown rot then they are capable of still growing from the crown.

If you lose it to crown rot then it might pop a keiki from a node around the crown or from a node on a root, quite far from the crown.

One of my Phal. wilsonii has a keiki growing about two inches from the crown on a root. Sorry don't have a pic of the growth. Phal. pulcherrima (Doritis) is famous for growing keikis from the roots.

Thanks for sharing this, and also, thanks to Brook. I have a Phal. lindenii that has lost its two topmost leaves to crown rot just recently. The last leaf is still hanging on, so I think that maybe the rot stopped on its own actually (yes, I admit, I had given up on it). I'll keep my fingers crossed that a keiki emerges somewhere on this tiny thing, though I think the hope is slim, but compared to before, I have some hope now at least.
