You had rescued this orchid from a client who lives in a residential facility? So I shortcut that description to "resident". It would be really super to restore this plant back to blooming, add pictures to what you have now as the plant flourishes--sort of a pictorial diary.

My client is doing really well... Without revealing a lot... Making progress day by day. The family has had to return to country of origin so I took their email address and if I can get the orchid healthy enough I'll send them pictures of their family member with the orchid. Fingers crossed.

Help everyone... Still no roots sprouting. How long should I expect this to take? The leaves are starting to look a little dehydrated. The stub that looks like a root is not growing longer.

No idea, but I'm very interested in the responses as I have decided to try to save an orchid that I think is pretty much done for, as it had no roots left after a severe case of rot. So, I'm just posting this to subscribe and get updates on your progress.

Hey, you only first posted about this 6 days ago!
Give it time, be patient. Orchids grow slowly. It could be a month or 2 before you really see anything happening.

Resist the urge to try to hasten the recovery process by making a bunch of changes. Trying to hasten recovery (for example, by using a variety of additives and chemicals on it before it resumes growing, or changing culture) will likely set recovery back.

Expect the leaves to wilt, this is normal because the plant has no roots. Give it time and a consistent environment. If it can recover, it will recover in response to good care.

Don't worry, plenty of time yet.

I've actually got a tiny Dendrobium wrapped in moss at the base in a similar way. I think your setup could work, just make sure the moss isn't too high up on the plant (look good in the picture.

I had a phal with no roots that took 5 months to make one. So it can take a long time.
