Just read the thread "warning to newbies using seaweed extract". Very helpful information to anyone who's wondering. The stuff k bought is called kelp man and I put about 1 teaspoon in a litre of water as the instructions indicated to do...
|
Be sure to only use the KelpMax once every two weeks.... Using more often than that, can actually inhibit new root growth.
|
Agreed Island Girl. That is exactly what the thread I read indicated too.

I would let the moss go to nearly dry between watering. Watering twice a day, in moss, may encourage rot. You want the plant to have to "reach" a bit to get some water, i.e., by making roots.
I would avoid anything other than plain water until it starts making new roots. Also, keep water off the leaves if you can. The leaves look fine, and will probably give the plant enough energy to make some roots. The humid environment you set up should encourage root formation. When new roots have formed, take off the moss, pot it in bark-based orchid media. Water very thoroughly (in the sink, water running through the pot), but do so only twice to three times a week (bark should be nearly dry, but not quite, before you water again). You can use the kelp etc. when the roots get going; ditto on fertilizer. Good luck! |
Thanks whisperer.

Since we are orchid people and we are on an Orchid Board our focus is rightfully on orchids. Your ICU is genius! I am going to use your idea should I rescue another Phalaenopsis. BTW, your resident is okay?
