need advise with bare root cattleya
planted it in small plastic pot with charcoal and hydroballs (expanded clay) mix. direct sunlight. is there anything more i need to do to boost root growth? how often do i water?  |

I have one in expanded clay balls which I water daily (sometimes every other day).
You can try a seaweed extract to promote root growth. Not sure what is available where you are.

can i substitute fertilizer with seaweed extract? is it an all purpose plant food?

No you cannot substitute them. Use seaweed extract every 2 to 4 weeks, not more. And if you Catt has poor roots, don't expose it to direct sun all day, only in the morning or evenings. Once the roots are healthy, then give it more sun. |

Agreed. Seaweed is not a fertiliser, but instead promotes root growth.

With cattleyas it's best to let the mix dry out completely before watering again. There's an old saying 'If your cattleya looks like it needs water, water it tomarrow. If your phal looks like it needs water, water it today. If your paph looks like it needs water, you should have watered it yesterday.'
