I used to grow this one...until it got way too big for my space. If I'm remembering correctly...the spikes will emerge from the center of a new growth...as the leaves unfurl...the spike will be in the center. The spike will elongate...the buds will swell and it will bloom...and then the pbulb will mature after the spike is done blooming. I'm pretty sure that's how this one went. I also had pandurata and asperata...all got extremely large and I had to rehome them.
I don't remember when this one bloomed but yours looks big enough...so you'll find out soon enough if it's going to have spikes.
BTW - it's Burfordiense...you're missing a couple of letters in the name.

Now you have me staring into the centre of the newly emerged leaves! I don't see anything, but you have given me hope. I really think it should be able to bloom because It received loads of light and fertilizer throughout the summer. I had coel cristata and flaccada before but I think they bloomed differently than you describe.

I googled images on the internet and there are photos of the flower spike emerging from the centre of the new leaves. It's a flower spike! Then I must have one too! I haven't had this one long but I was told that it will get huge.

What happened to yours? Did you get flowers?
Mine never did send up a spike - I wonder if it doesn't get enough light in my windowsill? It now has another shoot growing - and the whole thing is half out of the pot. I had to tape it down to keep it from tipping over! I'm reluctant to repot - I read coels get sulky when you repot them, and I'd love to see a bloom!

How dark are the leaves?
If the leaves are a dark green, it needs more light.
The difference between a new shoot and a spike is often very difficult to tell apart until somewhere down the line during the development you start seeing the top third of the growth bulging. Instead of looking like a spear, it will look more like a club.

Mine didn't get flowers either. It just got a new growth. Now it has yet another new growth started which I hope will have flowers this time. It should have enough light. I have mine in a south window with additional lighting. Mine is a Panurata

Well, Vanda lover, we are in the same boat. Let's continue this comment thread when our new growths differentiate!

My new growth doesn't look like a club, so I guess we'll just have to wait.
