Yellow roots on phal.
Hi guys, I have a phal that is just not playing the game! I watered it yesterday and on inspection today noticed that the roots are yellow, i have the feeling that it's the start of rot. I have removed it from the pot and just hung it bare root from my growing stand. I will rather not take a chance, hope this will help. Any thoughts.....

A picture will help. Sometimes roots that are not exposed to sun are yellow in color, but could be quite healthy. A picture might give hints about what you are seeing, though.

They look fine to me, but I'm still new.
I have one that I removed from moss that came out looking like that. Once I removed it from the moss and cleaned up the few rotted roots I found in the mess and repotted it in bark, the roots turned bright green pretty quickly.

I agree, it looks healthy to me. Like orchid whisperer said, they are yellow from not getting sun.
Edit: unless the roots are hollow and mushy or totally shrivelled and rock hard, they are probably healthy.

^+1 yep, I agree with the above, and with what Orchid Whisperer said... You have some beautiful, healthy roots.

They look OK to me. I think the yellow is just because they have not been growing in the light.
They look like they are firm, just try gently griping them in between your fingers. If they are firm they are good.

Thanks for all the info. The roots are firm so it must just be the lack of sun..... I have repotted in bark in a clear pot, so I hope it will thrive now. Thanks again

It really does not matter if the roots are yellow or green, as long as they are healthy. All my Phals are in terra cotta pots; the roots down in the pot are all yellow, I can assure you. Yet, my Phals all grow and bloom well.
There is nothing wrong with the clear plastic pot, but it is not necessary (unless you like being able to see the roots).
