Dendrobium Keiki, I need your Help!!
Default Dendrobium Keiki, I need your Help!!

Hi everyone, I have again one more question for all you. I have this Keiki growing from my Dendrobium, and I don’t know what to do. I have read that I need to wait until it gets roots, as you can see from the pictures below it already have really long roots. I want to know if I should remove it from the mother plant, or I should leave it for a longer time? Also, another concern that I have is how the roots are invading other growths. Any ideas? Finally, this is my first keiki and I don’t know how to remove them. Will you give me some tips on how to do it properly? Again, thanks for all your time and I appreciate your help.

Thanks,

Hector

Hi
this is the video that I watched couple times and learned how to do it:

I would definitely wait till the roots are longer. Also, I do use little bit of cinnamon to sterility the place where you detach/cut keiki. The most important is to water the roots real good prior to removing it, and try to rotate it to separate it. I would use some good dendrobium mix, smaller size, good drainage. Also, I keep my keikis in the bowl with water sitting on the stones, and misting them couple times a week.

If mother and baby are both well, it isn't necessary to remove the keiki - if you do want to, never hurts to wait quite a while before doing so.
