Just got a Phal. tetraspis x Vanda coerulea intergenetic. Can't find much about culture or care. I am tempted to treat it like a vanda. Now it is in spag and looks pretty good.

You treat this like the parents = both thrive in cool to warm temperature. I think this needs cool nights to flower and this can withstand below 50's temps but not freezing =below 30's. Vanda lighting might burn the leaves. I suggest Cattleya light.... this plant needs high humidity and moisture(and you are in Colorado); so your instincts are right to let it stay in sphagnum moss (I can see the other plants beside it is on S/H method= maybe it will also work for this plant)....feed it weekly weakly fertilizer and you're all set.

Agree with Bud, except that I don't think I'd let it get down to 50°... Maybe down to 55°, but if it were me, 60° at the coldest... Maybe I'm wrong, I'm not familiar with Vanda coerulea, but I do know that P. tetraspis is a "warm/hot" grower, and I'm pretty sure most Vandas are at least "warm" growing, if not "hot"... Just my

Definitely agree with the possibility of Cattleya light, as opposed to Vanda light! 'cuz Phal. tetraspis is a low light grower, so Vanda light will probably def. be too bright!

EDIT: Where did you get this? It sounds like an interesting cross! Is it blooming sized? I would LOVE to see the blooms on this one!!

leaf color seems to be right, it also seems the phal had more infliuence on the vegetative aspect of the plant.

i would place it in between phal and vanda light, (around 2000-2200 FC , and keep an observant eye on the leaf color. if it goes darker it needs more light if it goes more to yellow take it to a shadier spot.

most of orchid growing is based on keen observation, as your environment is unique.

Cheers.

Antonio.

You won't find much information about vandaenopsis because breeders haven't been making those crosses very long and there still aren't many of them around. I agree with Antonio that it looks like the phalaenopsis had more influence on the plant than the vanda. I think vanda light might burn it. I would start out with light a little brighter than phals like. Vanda coerulea can take cooler temperatures than some other vandas but I would bring the plant indoors if it's below 55 degrees. Please keep us updated as to how the plant does. I think you're in uncharted waters with that one.

Ya, that was my gut feeling. I have placed it with my other phals but closer to the lights. Not as close as my vanda. I will post a pic in the vanda section as it progresses. I think its a ways from blooming as the leaf span is only 8 inches or so. Thanks for all the suggestions. I am really excited to see what this one does!
