What to Feed My Phals?
Default What to Feed My Phals?

Hi all,
I have two very small phals and three large ones. With the help of everyone on these boards I was able to bring two of them back from close to death I've only been watering them, not giving any orchid food aside from kelp extract every other week for the weakest small gal to help with her root growth. I think I need to find a food with higher phosphorous if I'd like to see some spike growth and blooming, right? Any suggestions?

Im not near my food to see but I use better gro orchid food weakly weekly, I also have the bloom booster (cheaper to buy together) that I use once a month.

I have Seaweed extract on the way that i will probably start using every other watering, to help my guys with root growth.
also phal's need a temp change at night during the cold months depending on where you are like 55-65 at night until you start to see spikes growing(if I remember correctly) I do remember they need a temp drop though.

I feed mine 1/4 strength MSU weakly weekly as well. Once a month, I do liquid kelp. I have also started adding a few drops of superthrive in their fertilizer as well. I recently had to repot them so the superthrive has helped with that a lot.

FEED ME! MSU orchid fertilizer is urea free, great for orchids and other prized plants. It was formulated after a study performed by Michigan State University. Lots of vendors sell it online and Ray, one of the members here does also.

If you wish to not buy online, Better Gro (I don't bother with the bloom booster formula), Grow More Orchid urea free formula, Gubler's, are ones I have used.

Perfect! Thanks. Will I still have good luck with getting them to bloom w/out the booster?

Yep, I honestly just use it on a few phal's as a slight experiment. To see if there is any real difference.

I've never used a bloom booster, and most seem to bloom fine
