winter rest when does it start?

okay where I live it does not start cooling off until beginning of November..When do I need to start working on giving my orchids their winter rest and for how long?

I have
2 dendrobium nobile- that I know need winter rest
(temp range)

I know phal's need it colder but how cold? and just water normally?

what about these guys?

1 dove orchid

2 or more vanda's on the way

2 grammophyllum (?) on the way

1 Catt

2 Schomburgkia on the way

2 paph

two weeks before frost comes, start the winter rest
or if you see the leaves falling off the plant....then wait for new buds or new keikis to come out then that is the time to continue water and fertilizer....

Vandas, Gamms and equatorial orchids do not need rest....they need continuous water and fertilizer because they are from an area where they have only two seasons = monsoon rains and summer=these plants never experienced winter....

but your dove orchid comes from Panama where there is no winter yet it needs rest because there is a time in its weather cycle where there is (draught)no water except morning dew and then the river floods and they are immersed in water.

equator is the middle line of the globe....we are in the temperate zone....equatorial area is in the middle of the globe much nearer to the sun....

frost is below 30's and in your area comes after Halloween.

I don't know what day 65 is= you just look at your plants if they produce new buds or keikis that is the day you continue water and fertilizer....and 50's-60's is not frost temps but cooler temps at night for Phals to bloom....

Okay, will my paphs, need to be put on a rest? I am bidding on one that talks about a rest being needed.

the 50-65 is the range I am shooting to keep the room they will be in come late fall/winter

O dear why on earth I did not connect the two terms is beyond me blond moment on my part.
What will the ideal temps need to be across the board for them? To develop keiki's/blooms?

Equitorial meaning close to the equator. Extremely warm climates year 'round. They experience virtually no winter. So as far as the Grammatophyllum goes, keep him as warm as possible! NEVER let him experience anything less than 50 and that's pushing it. If he gets any colder than that, he'll respond by dropping all of his leaves.

leave your Cymbidiums outside to near frost temps then get them indoors before frost comes; that is what they need to bloom....

The Millenium Magic Witchcraft plant will lose its leaves....stop water and fertilizer and leave it in a bright cool place=really forget about it until it brings forth a new plant....this is important because if you water this it will rot and die...the bulb will have enough food to nourish a new plant....

ok you are right 50's and 60's is the cool temps to have for rest....I remember it can be in the 90's and 100's in Texas in summer

ummm 109 today and we will hopefully start seeing 90's in the next few weeks this heavy muggy heated weather is killing me..

treat your Paphs like Phals....but most Paphs get lots of water in their environment

do a research on that Paph you are getting....the rest it might need might just be lesser water....maybe instead of every other day watering you need to water it weekly during the winter months....then continue after valentines to give it all....
