Wow that sounds absolutely beautiful, but still not touching it. I was honestly just curious. Because I knew that in some states it is now illegal to have polar bear hide rugs if made after 1991 when they went on the list. Thats why I was wondering.. just genuine curiosity on my part

@JeremyinSF that is interesting, I am sure the seller's is lab grown, but I was just honestly curious about the rules. I did not want to make any type of mistake in the future about buying a *endangered orchid* if I so chose and then get slapped with a huge fine in case the seller was *less than honest* about their methods.

Ivory, and the ownership and trade of it, is probably another close example.

oh well.... we cant artificially inseminate polar bears and elephants to produce them by the thousands=we cannot provide any food for them to eat much less a territory to roam (part of their habitats are now subdivisions or burnt forest farmlands).... plants can have a bit of six inches pot of media mix and some fertilizer they can be produced by the thousands....

any orchid in the hands of humans should be considered endangered. especially orchids in the hands of OB members
pssst and if you squeeze them real hard you can make white ones turn purple

Many man-made hybrids are not bred for the purposes of the continuation of the species in cultivation. They are solely for the purposes of commercial gains, cultivation, pride, and enjoyment.
They are also an option for those who do not want to collect their species counterparts for any reason they may have.

Peristeria elata has been artificially propagated in-vitro for a long time already. Many of the plants sold are either nursery propagated divisions, or propagated seedlings.
Thanks to people who were dedicated to ensuring the survival of this species in cultivation, the danger of this orchid going completely extinct will be very small.
