The worst thing is, I might have some month or 2 of traveling sometimes within next 6-8 months, and I am already freaking out, I will have to probably fly back home to Miami for the weekends at least to take care of my orchids:-) I just do not even want to think about it now, my next trip is end of September to California, 7 days, it will be already torture:-)

Wow, your partner is really awesome to be ok with all those plants, and to take care of them for u! He's a keeper! Wish I had advice for the going out of town thing... Sorry, I do not but, the suggestion about going to your local orchid society, and asking about plant sitters, that might be worth a try! Good luck

Thanks Island Girl, actually I have though about that or Broward Orchid Supply company provides also service of coming to you house and helping you with positioning and care, so maybe I can pay them to come at least one every week and do the job, Im pretty sure it will cost me less than tickets and also time saving. We are not talking about travel a lot in 2 months, I meant month or 2 of traveling nonstop:-) But 2 years ago I did leave for ski trip for 21 days and it was February/march and even without watering everything was ok, better, some orchids in need for winter rest were even blooming:-) I just don't know for sure yet when this trip will happen:-)

13??? Even after your shopping spree??? Wow, your family must loose up!!!! He started to really freak out after probably I got first 30 this summer, added to balcony, he did not even say anything when there were like 50 outside, but now with around 100 he just wanted to "TALK" yesterday:-) It was like little intervention:-) and I must say I give him this one, and there is still like 30 on the way! HE IS A KEEPER, but we are together for nearly 9 years now anyway:-) so I know I will keep him:-)

Yea, that sounds good if u could get someone from Broward to do it (or maybe they could recommend someone for you). If its in the winter, they'd be fine, with like two-three waterings in like 2 months! Lol. But, in the summer... Woo, I left my plants last week, no water for a week, and they were pretty darn thirsty! (fairly shriveled, but all recovered except the Sharry baby I left out of its pot, b/c I ran out of time! now, it's p'bulbs won't plump back up oh well, my fault, really) -point is, summer watering is drastically different from winter/spring watering! I hope ur trip is in the winter!! Mounted plants can't last as long as potted ones... I wonder if you could (temporarily) pot the ones on mounts (like leave attached to mount, but bury root parts in media, inside a pot) so they'd retain moisture longer?
EDIT: yea, my parents were wondering about me when I got to like 40-50, but I don't live with them, so I don't have to hear it all the time they still have to comment tho... And my mom, I don't think I could hide one from her... She seems to notice everytime I get a new one

Thanks God I am really ORCHID FREAK, other plants are truly lovely, but not for me, really. I have few air plants I got as gifts, they got obsessively huge in years, i mean from the palm of the hand size to 2 litter Coke bottle size, also some cactus someone brought me from new mexico, but only OTHER than orchid plants I ever bought and grow is my huge Dracema, passion fruit plant (I LOVE LOVE these alien blooms, so great for macro pics), and last week I ordered and received this amazing plant I found on Asian pages and saw for the first time - HOYA KERRII - so so cute! but that's it, i must admit, i LOVE orchids:-) No worries, add them slowly - not like me, 50 in 2 months is just too much for our folks! - and they won't even realize, maybe

I do hate travel during summer, so it is definitely not summer tip, probably most likely early spring, I hope. My hubby have no clue what is new and what is old, that's a good thing, however since we are living in the apartment, he sees pretty much every single box I ever bring:-) There were even times when I did try to SNEAK IN so he would not see me, especially when coming from my trips and bringing more, like every time I go to Key West or to Orlando where I have my favorite sellers:-))) I will try to make it as easy for him as possible, mounted orchids - which I have a LOT - i will make a lot of huge turkey alumni foil pans with stones and water, and place mounted babies on them, I will place all bulbos into similar setup, and will try to do my best with the rest, I always place colored plastic tags for him, each color means different watering, one color is EVERY 2 days, one color is only once a week etc:-)

CONGRATS, I am yet waiting for any bag baby to spike or bloom, but their sizes are pretty good, so I hope it will be soon. BUT i just started to buy them in July, so it is pretty short time!
